This week I am in the U.K. for the Bishops and Superintendents Wesley Tour. For those of you interested in such a tour, you can contact Pastor Steve Tungate of FMCUSA Ministerial Credentialing at [email protected] to discuss the trip that they are offering this year. I wholeheartedly endorse our minister’s seeking encouragement and inspiration from such a tour. 

Since I am enjoying such a tour and it is the New Year, it seemed appropriate in this newsletter to share what has become known as John Wesley’s Covenant Prayer:

I am no longer my own, but thine.

Put me to what thou wilt, rank me with whom thou wilt.

Put me to doing, put me to suffering.

Let me be employed for thee or laid aside for thee,

exalted for thee or brought low for thee.

Let me be full, let me be empty.

Let me have all things, let me have nothing.

I freely and heartily yield all things to thy pleasure and disposal.

And now, O glorious and blessed God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit,

thou art mine, and I am thine.

So be it.

And the covenant which I have made on earth,

let it be ratified in heaven.

Amen.

It can be pretty humbling to honestly recite this prayer and yet it is a reminder for us that life is fragile and that all good things come from God. It is also a good reminder that no matter what the new year brings, God will be present in the midst of it. 

May you rest well in the knowledge that God is all ready present in the day before you.
